Easter is a joyful season of renewal, and one of the most beloved traditions is decorating and filling Easter eggs. From easy felt crafts to stuffed animals, I've rounded up some of the best non-candy Easter egg filler ideas around to help make your festivities extra fun.
Lovely Easter felt crafting, and don’t forget to share your makes!
My kids love Easter egg hunts (they cannot wait to start), and I love setting them up and watching them find the eggs. As I prefer that they don't end up with sugar overload, I looked for felt craft makes and other non-candy fillers that could enter into the plastic Easter eggs and would be lovely for my own kids to have. My kids are six, eight, and ten years old and would enjoy many of the ideas from the list. Younger kids will also enjoy these Easter egg filler ideas. They are great starting from age three or four when kids can look for Easter eggs independently.
What Size Easter Eggs Should You Use?
You can find 3 different sizes of plastic Easter eggs for your Easter scavenger hunt. You may want to purchase a mix of sizes to add some variety and excitement. A good tip I read is to assign each kid a color of plastic egg for the hunt so that they get their age and potentially gender-appropriate gifts. On top of that, they won’t fight who got more and who got less. I used this tip at last year's neighborhood egg hunt, which proved a great idea.
These are the plastic eggs to consider:
Small Easter eggs - 2 3/8 inches
Medium Easter eggs - 3.5 inches
Jumbo Easter eggs - these eggs are 6-inch tall jumbo eggs. These will give you the option to hide quite an item :) I like to have one of these giant eggs for my kids.
The great thing about these plastic eggs is that they are reusable. So you can keep them for the next year's Easter hunt. Simply gather the eggs once your kids have opened them and collected all the surprises.
